Mera Peak is one of the most famous climbing peaks in the Makalu Barun National Park region which is located to the east of the world-renowned Sagarmatha National Park, the home of the highest mountain on earth, Mount Everest. Mera Peak is one of the highest trekking peaks in Nepal. The peak is ideal for trekkers with some experience in high-altitude trekking but has yet to try actual mountain climbing with full climbing gear.

Climbing Mera Peak does not require advanced skills besides just walking on glaciers with crampons and summit approach with rope assistance. During the Mera peak climb “Base camp” and “high camp” are used before the summit however, most people use only the high camp straight from Khare to the summit.

Although the region is famous for the Mera Peak expedition, however, just the trek to the Mera Peak base camp attracts hundreds of tourists from around the world for its diverse scenery, stunning mountain views, lakes, and glaciers alongside local Sherpa hospitality and culture.

The summit of the Mera Peak provides an unforgettable panoramic view of the highest mountain peaks such as Mount Everest 1st highest, Mount Kanchenjunga 3rd highest, Mount Lhotse 4th highest, and Mount Makalu 5th highest along with other surrounding peaks and glaciers in the region.

Discover Altitude has been organizing the Mera Peak expedition along with several other peak expeditions in the Nepal Himalayas. We provide the best climbing arrangement services. The expedition is led by our professional climbing Guides who have a high amount of experience in Nepal Himalayan peaks and are also licensed by the Nepal Mountaineering Association.

Mera peak climbing in the Spring season.

The Spring season which falls in March, April, and May is the best time of year to climb mountains and so is for the Mera Peak expedition. During this season weather is more predictable. The nights are relatively warmer compared to autumn and other seasons.

Normally, the sky mostly remains clear until the afternoon which provides a better weather window for summiting mountains and viewing the scenery. Moreover, this season has only very little chance of snowing thus, providing compact ice for crampons. it is also a good time of year for rhododendron blossom which adds up to the sight.

Climbing Mera peak in the Autumn season

The Autumn season which falls in September, October, and November, is the second-best time of year to summit the Mera Peak. Although it has a little bit colder nights and mornings before daylight compared to the spring season but also provides a good weather window for summiting. The day is more pleasant temperature with bright sun in the sky which is less sweaty during the walk.

How difficult is Mera Peak climbing?

Mera Peak is listed as one of the trekking peaks in Nepal and is considered among the easier peaks to climb. Anyone with good acclimatization and a little bit of rope handling skill can do it easily as it doesn’t require any serious climbing skills or doesn't have to go crossing the ladder on the crevasses as well and there are no avalanche-risk sections.

once the climbs from the base camp begin it is a tiny bit steep at the beginning but eventually, it is mostly a straightforward walk on the glacier until Mera Peak High Camp. Leaving high camp the trail is still a gradual climb on the glacier and the last hour of the summit approach is a little steeper, however, the rope is fixed for your safety by the climbing Sherpa which helps a lot to push up to the summit and all you need is a little bit of determination, stamina, and patience.
