Short Tilicho Lake Trek starts from Besisahar, a mountainous town. This trek leads to Manang, Tilicho Lake, Muktinath, Jomsom, Kaligandaki River, and around the Annapurna circuit crossing the highest point at Thorong La Pass at 5416 Meters above sea level.

While trekking on this route, you will be passing the largest forest of Rhododendron (national flower of Nepal), with the sound of chirping birds, Lophophorus (national bird), peacock, deer, monkey, leopard, etc.

This Trip makes you see the numerous Himalayas, but the main attraction of the trek will be Tilicho Lake situated at an elevation of 4949 Meters, which is one of the famous lakes situated at the highest altitude (till August 2019, as a new Lake has been found recently Known as KAJIN SARA LAKE at the elevation of 5,200 Meters, our itinerary for this new lake is under formation ) around 24 km from Chame. This lake is yet to be officially declared the highest-altitude lake in the world.

Furthermore, the trail will also take us in between the mountains to view the Kaligandaki Gorge, the deepest in the world. The trek also passes Muktinath (3800M), a pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. This is a short and carefully designed itinerary that is achievable for most travelers and age groups with a reasonable level of fitness.

Day 1 Drive from Kathmandu to Chame - 2,670m (8,760ft)

Your Short Tilicho Lake Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Chame. Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and accompany you to the tourist bus station. The bus departs Kathmandu at approximately 6:30 AM and travels to Besisahar by comfortable tourist bus.

From Besisahar, you will continue by a comfortable 4WD jeep to Chame, following the Marsyangdi River through beautiful mountain scenery and traditional villages.

The total journey takes approximately 7–8 hours. Chame, at 2,650 m (8,690 ft), offers beautiful views of the surrounding Annapurna mountains.

You can choose to stay at Lower Pisang or continue to Upper Pisang, which is about 100 meters higher and approximately 40 minutes farther. The choice can be made according to your fitness level and conditions.

After breakfast, you begin your trek from Manang toward Tilicho Base Camp. The trail follows the beautiful Marsyangdi Valley before turning toward the remote Tilicho Valley, with amazing mountain landscapes, rocky terrain, and  spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

As you gain altitude, the scenery becomes increasingly rugged and spectacular. The trail gradually leads to Tilicho Base Camp, located beneath the magnificent Tilicho Peak. Take time to relax and enjoy the peaceful mountain surroundings.

After breakfast, hike to the spectacular Tilicho Lake situated at an altitude of 4,919 meters (16,138 feet), one of the highest lakes in the world. Spend around an hour by the lake enjoying the peaceful surroundings, breathtaking mountain views, and taking memorable photographs.

After enjoying Tilicho Lake, retrace the trail and continue trekking toward Siri Kharka, where you will spend the night. This is an important stop before continuing toward Thorong La Pass.

Day 6 Trek from SiriKharka to Yak Kharka - 4,050 m (13,287 ft)

Today, you trek from Siri Kharka to Yak Kharka, following a scenic trail through the remote highlands of the Annapurna region. The trail offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and rugged Himalayan landscapes.

As you approach Yak Kharka, you will notice the landscape becoming more alpine and open. This is a short and relatively relaxed trekking day, allowing you to rest and prepare for the upcoming journey toward Thorong La Pass.

Day 7 Trekking from Yak Kharka to High Camp - 4,925 m (16,160 feet)

Today, you trek from Yak Kharka toward Thorong Phedi or Thorong High Camp, depending on your pace and physical condition.

If you are trekking at a slower pace, you can stop at Thorong Phedi for the night. If you are feeling strong and maintaining a good pace, you can have lunch at Thorong Phedi and continue for approximately 2 more hours to reach Thorong High Camp.

Staying at High Camp makes the following day’s Thorong La Pass crossing more comfortable by shortening the early morning ascent.

Day 8 Big day ! Thonrag La Pass (5416 meters) & Descend to Jomsom 2,700 meters (8,858 feet)

The big day! You will start early, around 4:30–5:00 AM, to begin the ascent toward Thorong La Pass. An early start is important as weather conditions at the pass can change quickly, and it is best to cross before the afternoon.

After reaching the top of Thorong La Pass, enjoy the spectacular Himalayan views before descending toward Muktinath. After lunch, take time to visit Muktinath Temple, one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists.

Later, continue by jeep to Jomsom for an overnight stay. Staying in Jomsom is convenient for the following morning’s early flight, and you will be accommodated near Jomsom Airport.

Upon arrival in Pokhara, your Short Tilicho Lake Trek officially comes to an end. You will say farewell to your guide and porter, who will not fly to Pokhara but return to Kathmandu by road from Jomsom.

You are then free to enjoy your own activities in Pokhara. If you would like to continue your journey to Kathmandu, Discover Altitude will be happy to assist with your onward arrangements.
